What Your Authority Actually Sounds Like
Authority in Human Design is the part of your chart that tells you how you're designed to make decisions. Not what to decide. How. And most people get this wrong in a very specific way: they learn the name of their authority and then try to use it like a technique.
"I'm emotional authority, so I have to wait."
Correct, technically. Useless, practically.
What actually helps is learning what your authority sounds like from the inside, because that's the only place it exists. Authority isn't a strategy you apply. It's a signal you learn to recognize.
Emotional authority is the most common. If your Solar Plexus is defined, this is yours. The wave is the whole point. You don't wait because waiting is the rule. You wait because your clarity literally doesn't exist in the first spike of excitement or the first dip of doubt. It exists after the wave has moved. The feeling that means "yes" for emotional authority is not enthusiasm. It's a settled, calm knowing that persists after the highs and lows have passed. If the idea still feels right when you're not excited about it, it's right.
Sacral authority is the gut response. It's available to Generators and Manifesting Generators with an undefined Solar Plexus. This one is fast and binary. Yes or no. The signal is physical, not mental. A pull toward something, a rising energy in the body, an involuntary "mm-hmm" or an equally involuntary flatness. The mind will try to explain the gut response after the fact, but the response itself has no words. If you're rationalizing your way into a yes, it wasn't a yes.
Splenic authority is the quietest. It's a single, in-the-moment hit of knowing. Not a feeling that builds. Not a wave. A flash. The challenge is that it doesn't repeat. If you miss it, it doesn't come back louder. It came once and it was complete. People with splenic authority often describe it as "I just knew" followed by months of their mind trying to talk them out of what they knew.
Self-projected authority (G Center) sounds like hearing yourself speak. Not planning what to say and then saying it. Actually hearing the truth come out of your mouth in conversation and recognizing it as true only after you've said it. This authority needs to talk things through, not for advice, but for the experience of hearing its own voice.
Ego/Heart authority is rare and direct. It sounds like willpower with clarity. "I want this" or "I don't want this." Not because wanting is selfish, but because the defined Heart's will is the decision-making instrument. The question isn't "should I?" It's "do I have the will for this?"
Mental authority (none of the above defined) makes decisions through environment and conversation. There's no internal body signal to wait for. Instead, the right environment and the right sounding boards produce clarity. This is the authority that needs the most patience from other people, because it genuinely doesn't know until the context is right.
Your authority has been operating your whole life. You've felt it every time you made a decision that turned out right without being able to explain why. Learning your authority's name doesn't give you a new skill. It gives you a name for something you've already been doing in the moments when you trusted yourself.
